Senior Scientist, Muscle Biology & Energy Metabolism
About this role
Sr. Scientist Position
At Regeneron, we use science and innovation to develop life-changing medicines for people with serious diseases. We are seeking a Sr. Scientist to join the Obesity, Metabolism and Muscle Diseases Group to support the identification and validation of novel drug targets for metabolic disorders. This is a lab-based role for a scientist with a strong foundation in skeletal muscle physiology and energy metabolism. The ideal candidate can independently design and conduct in vitro and in vivo studies while collaborating and communicating efficiently across the group and other teams.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a fast-growing, science-driven organization making a meaningful difference to patients worldwide.
Location: Tarrytown, NY
Work model/flexibility: Onsite
Discover your role
- Identify and implement novel areas, technologies and approaches for validating muscle-related targets and target modalities in metabolic disease drug discovery
- Design and conduct in vitro (e.g. primary and/or iPSC-derived myotube/myofiber models) and ex vivo (e.g. biomarker testing via ELISA) assays to support target validation
- Design and perform in vivo studies in animal models to characterize muscle and/or metabolic phenotypes, and provide mechanistic insights into the underlying biology
- Apply muscle histological approaches (e.g. IHC/IF, fiber-typing, in situ activity assays, in situ hybridization) to complement molecular and functional readouts
- Analyze data, draw scientifically sound conclusions and identify knowledge gaps
- Provide timely updates on scientific progress, communicating efficiently across teams and functions
- Thrive in a fast-paced, multi-project environment, staying detail-oriented and well-organized
- Work well both independently and as part of a team
- Bring curiosity and a desire to expand your areas of expertise as new questions arise
This role requires
- Ph.D. with a minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral research experience
- Broad expertise in skeletal muscle biology and energy metabolism (e.g., muscle bioenergetics, substrate utilization, mitochondrial function, muscle-organ crosstalk), with clear relevance to obesity, diabetes, lipid metabolism or endocrinology
- Ability to independently design and perform complex in vitro and in vivo studies, interpret data, and summarize results
- Passion and creativity to generate and pursue independent research ideas to advance drug discovery and development
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a strong record of scientific publications
- Preferred: experience with muscle histological techniques
- Preferred: strong understanding of human and mouse genetics
