About this role

Research Assistant Position – Prediction Modelling in Cognitive Disorders

Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Division of Neurogeriatrics conducts research on Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders, spanning basic science, clinical research, epidemiology and health economics. Recent developments in biomarkers and disease-modifying treatments for Alzheimer's disease have created a need for methods that can improve diagnosis and predict disease progression in clinical practice.

We are now looking for a research assistant to work on the development and validation of prediction models and diagnostic algorithms for individuals with cognitive impairment.

Your Mission

The work will involve:

  • systematic reviews of previously published prediction models and diagnostic algorithms;
  • preparation, management and harmonisation of data from cohorts, registries and clinical studies;
  • development of prediction models for differential diagnosis and disease progression;
  • validation of prediction models using independent datasets;
  • development and evaluation of diagnostic algorithms based on clinical characteristics, biomarker information and diagnostic test performance;
  • preparation of scientific publications and presentation of results at international conferences.

    The work will involve close collaboration with researchers from several European universities, hospitals and research organisations.

    The position is a fixed-term employment for one year.

    Your Profile

    We are looking for a candidate with a Master's degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, medicine, neuroscience or another relevant quantitative field, and documented research experience.

    The successful applicant should have:

    • strong analytical and quantitative skills;
    • experience working with complex or large datasets;
    • experience using statistical software and programming languages including R and Python,
    • excellent written and spoken English.

      Previous experience with one or more of the following areas is considered meritorious:

      • prediction modelling;
      • longitudinal data analysis;
      • registry-based research;
      • biomarker research;
      • systematic reviews;
      • dementia or neurodegenerative disease research.

        The work requires both independence and the ability to collaborate effectively with researchers from different disciplines and countries. Great emphasis will therefore be placed on personal suitability.

        Choose to work at KI – Ten reasons why

        The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2025 of 580 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

        The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of about 65 employees. The division conducts experimental and translational research related primarily to Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, but also more general molecular mechanisms with biomedical relevance are studied. The division is mainly located in BioClinicum, KI Campus Solna, and partially in Neo, KI Campus Flemingsberg.
