Research Assistant in Molecular Skin Wound Healing and Single-Cell Genomics
About this role
Research Assistant in Molecular Skin Wound Healing and Single-Cell Genomics
Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Skin Wound Healing Research Group led by Dr. Ning Xu Landén at the Division of Dermatology and Venereology, Department of Medicine, Solna, Karolinska Institutet. Based at the Centre for Molecular Medicine (CMM), our group combines human wound models, molecular biology and single-cell and spatial omics to understand tissue repair. This position offers early-career researchers hands-on training in a collaborative, internationally connected environment.
Your mission
As a Research Assistant, you will provide experimental and practical support to a project investigating how genetic sex and hormonal environment influence human skin wound healing. You will work alongside researchers studying human skin and wound samples using molecular, cellular and spatial approaches. Training will be provided for unfamiliar techniques.
Main responsibilities:
- Process, prepare and document human skin and wound tissue samples
- Assist with RNA extraction, gene expression assays, cell culture, immunostaining and microscopy, according to established protocols
- Support sample preparation and quality control for single-cell and spatial transcriptomics experiments
- Organize experimental data, maintain accurate laboratory records and contribute to preliminary analysis
- Collaborate with team members, present progress in group meetings and support routine laboratory operations
Your profile
We are looking for a motivated, careful and collaborative early-career researcher with an interest in experimental biomedical research, human skin biology and tissue repair. You should be well organized, eager to learn and comfortable working with biological samples and established protocols.
Required qualifications:
- A Master's degree in Biomedicine, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field, or an equivalent degree expected to be completed before the start of employment
- Documented hands-on experience in a biological or biomedical laboratory, including relevant thesis research
- Ability to follow experimental protocols precisely and maintain structured laboratory records
- Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaborate effectively with colleagues
Meritorious qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with more than three of the following: RNA extraction, qRT-PCR, Western blotting, cell culture, immunostaining, and animal work
- Experience handling human tissues, tissue sectioning, microscopy, RNAscope or flow cytometry
- Familiarity with single-cell or spatial transcriptomics, sequencing sample preparation or basic bioinformatics
- Experience presenting scientific findings or contributing to multidisciplinary research
We will place particular emphasis on your personal qualities.
