About this role

Postdoctoral Position In Breast Cancer Epidemiology / Clinical Epidemiology

The Department of Clinical Epidemiology at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as postdoctoral research fellow in the field of Breast Cancer Epidemiology as per 15 February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a two-year position fully funded by the Health Insurance Denmark.

The position entails research within clinical epidemiology, specifically within breast cancer and breast cancer survivorship. The successful candidate will join a project focusing on studies related to adherence to breast cancer treatment; side effects and complications of breast cancer and its treatment; and how these may influence quality of life, long-term survivorship, and early and late breast cancer recurrence. The project investigates the association of pharmacological, genetic and socioeconomic factors and adherence to cancer treatment; employing advanced epidemiological methods including emulated target trials, group-based trajectory modelling, mediation analyses, and Bayesian modelling approaches to investigate adherence to cancer treatment and recurrence. The research fellow will join a vibrant and dynamic multinational and multidisciplinary project team (the Predictors of Breast Cancer Recurrence – ProBeCaRe – project team) with established successful long-term research collaboration.

The successful applicant will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. They will work closely with colleagues, receiving supervision and guidance. Emphasis will be placed on the applicant's interest in building bridges between clinical, epidemiological and biostatistical research.

The main tasks will consist of:

  • Research in clinical epidemiology, specifically within breast cancer and breast cancer survivorship.
  • Make applications as needed for access to Danish population-based and medical registries.
  • Independently perform statistical analysis using programmes such as R, SAS, or equivalent.
  • Collaborate within an active research group with national and international collaborators.
  • Contribute to teaching at the Aarhus University and its collaborators, as necessary.
  • Take part in grant writing and participate actively in research fundraising.
  • Gain experience supervising students.
  • Conduct independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Write scientific articles and participate in international congresses.
  • Perform other tasks within the Department of Clinical Epidemiology fields of interest.

You have academic qualifications at PhD/DSc level preferably within one or more of the following areas: epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, cancer epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, and/or can document familiarity with epidemiological research at an international level. Research experience in cancer and pharmacologic research would be advantageous, but not essential. Research experience in epidemiologic methods, analysing and incorporating data from Danish registries, including data from the National Clinical Quality Cancer Databases (specifically data from the Danish Breast Cancer Group), the Health Services Register, and the National Patient Registry, would be useful, particularly data incorporating socioeconomic factors. Research experience in cancer survivorship, patient reported outcomes and national surveys would be a benefit as well. Evidence of the ability to secure competitive research grants would be advantageous. As a person, you are motivated, ambitious, take ownership and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English, with good knowledge of Danish.

Your application must include the following:

    • Motivated application
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Diploma
    • Template for applicant – postdoc
    • A list of publications
    • A teaching portfolio. We refer to Guideline on the use of teaching portfolios
    • A maximum of five of the publications of greatest relevance to the job may be submitted (optional)
    • Research plan can be uploaded (optional)
    • Coauthor statement(s) can be uploaded (optional)
    • References/recommendations can be uploaded separately in the e-recruitment system (optional)
