Position Summary
The Clinical Flow Cytometry team within Translational Sciences and Precision Medicine is seeking a Senior Scientist to develop and deliver flow cytometry-based biomarker assays supporting all phases of clinical development at BMS. Data from this team inform decisions on dose optimization, indication prioritization, patient selection, and potential drug combinations. In this laboratory-based role, the Senior Scientist will lead assay design, development, qualification/validation, and execution for assigned programs across therapeutic areas, lead or support assay transfer to external laboratories, and work independently on defined deliverables, with limited supervision on complex or novel challenges. The role serves as a technical point of contact, collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders, and mentors junior scientists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, optimization, qualification/validation, and execution of novel, fit-for-purpose flow cytometry assays for clinical biomarker studies, with substantial hands-on laboratory work.
- Evaluate, implement, and troubleshoot new flow cytometry methods, technologies, and platforms.
- Analyze and interpret complex flow cytometry data and recommend next steps to clinical and translational teams.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for panel design, assay development, and data interpretation on assigned programs.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders on assay requirements, endpoints, timelines, data delivery, and risk mitigation.
- Lead or support assay transfer to external laboratories, providing scientific oversight, troubleshooting, and quality review of their data.
- Manage concurrent assignments, prioritize for timely delivery, and escalate technical and operational risks as appropriate.
- Author and review method procedures, validation protocols and reports, study documentation, and technical summaries; present results in multidisciplinary meetings.
- Mentor and train junior scientists on assays, instruments, and procedures.
- Maintain accurate, traceable records and promote scientific rigor, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD, MS, or BSc in biological sciences, immunology, or related scientific discipline.
- At least 2 years of relevant post-graduate experience with a PhD, 5 years with an MS, or 7 years with a BSc, including substantial flow cytometry work such as high-parameter immunophenotyping, receptor occupancy, or functional assays.
- Record of scientific contribution, such as publications, presentations, patents, or validated methods.
- Strong hands-on expertise in high-parameter flow cytometry assay design, instrument optimization, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with FlowJo, FCS Express, OMIQ, or comparable analysis software.
- Working knowledge of fit-for-purpose qualification and validation of biomarker assays for clinical trials.
- Ability to write clear, rigorous procedures, protocols, reports, and scientific presentations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver with limited supervision in a matrixed environment.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and record-keeping skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Biopharmaceutical industry experience
- Solid scientific knowledge of immunology
- Hands-on experience with spectral or other high-parameter flow cytometry platforms
