Research Fellow in Auditory Neuroscience
About this role
Research Fellow in Auditory Neuroscience
We are seeking a Research Fellow to join Professor Maria Chait's team at the UCL Ear Institute, working on the UKRI-funded project Measuring the Human 'Auditory Buffer'.
The project aims to understand how the brain retains and uses recent auditory information to support perception, detect patterns and predict incoming sounds. You will contribute to investigating the capacity and limitations of this auditory memory system and how it influences listening across individuals and age groups.
The research combines large-scale behavioural experiments, EEG and MEG recordings, pupillometry and computational modelling, offering an opportunity to contribute to innovative research at the intersection of auditory neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience and computational approaches to perception.
The role is funded by UKRI for 36 months in the first instance.
If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Ear Institute HR Team.
Informal enquiries regarding the role can be addressed to Professor Maria Chait.
A full job description and person specification for this role can be accessed below. To apply, please upload a current CV, complete the online application form, and use the supporting statement section or upload a cover letter to outline how you meet the essential and desirable criteria for the role. Please do not upload any additional attachments as these will not be considered by the selection panel.

Experience in cognitive neuroscience research, including designing and conducting behavioural and/or M/EEG experiments, is essential. You will have strong programming and signal processing skills, together with experience in analysing and/or computationally modelling brain imaging data (EEG, MEG and/or fMRI). You will be capable of developing and implementing innovative experimental techniques and approaches.
The role requires strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent organisational and record-keeping abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple projects and competing priorities. You will also have excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to high ethical and professional standards in research.
