Faculty Position: Physician, Onco-Pulmonary Service, Department of Medicine
About this role
About Us:
The people of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) are united by a singular mission: ending cancer for life. Our specialized care teams provide personalized, compassionate, expert care to patients of all ages. Informed by basic research done at our Sloan Kettering Institute, scientists across MSK collaborate to conduct innovative translational and clinical research that is driving a revolution in our understanding of cancer as a disease and improving the ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat it. MSK is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians, who go on to pursue our mission at MSK and around the globe. The Department of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated physician with training in Pulmonary Medicine for an academic clinician faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Attending rank. This role is focused on onco-pulmonology and the clinical care of patients with cancer who develop pulmonary complications related to malignancy, cancer therapy, immune-based treatments, transplantation, infection, and underlying chronic lung disease. The Pulmonary Service provides specialized expertise in Onco-Pulmonary and General Pulmonary Medicine, with an emphasis on longitudinal, multidisciplinary oncologic care; management of immunocompromised hosts; evaluation and treatment of drug-induced and radiation-induced pneumonitis; pulmonary complications of cellular therapy and stem cell transplantation; peri-operative pulmonary risk assessment; and chronic lung diseases including COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, pulmonary nodules, and chronic cough. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help grow MSK’s multidisciplinary immune-related adverse event (IRAE) program, with a particular focus on pulmonary toxicities from immune checkpoint inhibitors and other novel cancer therapies. The position includes robust clinical and research opportunities to build collaborative programs across the Department of Medicine, including partnerships with solid tumor oncology, hematologic malignancies, subspecialty medicine, radiology, pathology, infectious diseases, rheumatology, dermatology, cardiology, critical care, and supportive care. We are particularly interested in candidates who wish to expand clinical research and clinical trials focused on pulmonary toxicities, IRAEs, and multidisciplinary models of care for patients receiving advanced oncologic therapies. Pulmonary hosts two fellowships, one in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine and the other in Interventional Pulmonology and collaborate with an integrated Pulmonary APP inpatient team. The Pulmonary research portfolio continues to expand in breadth, with active publications, new prospective clinical trials and external funding. The largest of MSK’s clinical departments, the Department of Medicine (DoM) encompasses experts in solid tumor oncology, hematologic malignancies, subspecialty medicine and supportive and acute care services. Offering a range of services both in multiple sites in New York City and at their suburban outpatient locations in our Regional Care Network (RCN), DoM physicians oversee the care of the whole patient. The RCN serves the areas surrounding Manhattan and extends from Southern New Jersey to Eastern Long Island and brings the same high level of expertise, clinical care, and access to clinical trial protocols that are available at our main campus in New York City. The ideal candidate should be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pulmonary Medicine and have a strong interest in the multidisciplinary management of patients with cancer, including immunocompromised patients and those with pulmonary complications of oncologic therapies. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in clinical care, a commitment to academic medicine, and the ability to work in a cohesive, dynamic team environment. Experience or interest in clinical research, clinical trials, program development, and collaborative investigation in pulmonary toxicities and IRAEs is highly desirable.
