Postdoc job: Antimicrobial, Wound Neural Repair/Pain, Neurodegeneration
About this role
The Hong Laboratory in the Neuroscience Center of Excellence at LSU Health Sciences Center-New Orleans is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in antimicrobial therapeutics and wound-infection research.
Research focus
The fellow will conduct hypothesis-driven biological and mechanistic studies of candidate antimicrobial peptides, small molecules, or biomaterials for drug-resistant bacterial infections, with an emphasis on Gram-negative pathogens such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and polymicrobial wound infections.
Research may include:
-
Antimicrobial and antibiofilm efficacy
-
Development of bacterial resistance
-
Mechanisms of antimicrobial action
-
Host-pathogen interactions
-
Cytocompatibility and immunomodulatory activity
-
Therapeutic efficacy in wound-infection models
The fellow will help formulate research questions, design and conduct rigorous in vitro and in vivo experiments, analyze and interpret results, prepare manuscripts and presentations, and contribute to grant development. Compound or peptide synthesis is not required.
Research environment
Our multidisciplinary research program integrates quantitative microbiology, bacterial pathogenesis, biofilm biology, cell and molecular biology, host-pathogen studies, LC-MS/MS, flow cytometry, biomaterials, wound healing, and animal infection models. The successful candidate will have substantial intellectual ownership of the research and opportunities to develop increasing scientific independence.
Qualifications
-
PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in microbiology, bacterial pathogenesis, antimicrobial research, pharmacology, chemical biology, biomaterials, peptide science, wound healing, or a related field
-
Strong experimental, analytical, problem-solving, and scientific communication skills
-
Experience in antimicrobial research, biofilm biology, host-pathogen interactions, or related biological research
-
Experience with Gram-negative bacteria, particularly P. aeruginosa, or animal infection models is preferred but not required if the applicant has strong transferable antimicrobial research experience
-
Integrity, creativity, resourcefulness, reliability, enthusiasm, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
-
Ability to perform the essential laboratory duties safely, with or without reasonable accommodation
