Process Support Scientist, Microbiology
Support the AbbVie Technical Operations Function at the North Chicago AbbVie site. Provide technical process ownership, continuous improvement, and problem solving associated with commercial APIs and drug products. Provide technical expertise on aseptic processing and contamination control. Accountable for data analysis, project reports and experiments in support of process development, validation activities and Technical Transfers while maintaining and meeting the highest standards in quality, customer service and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates and integrates relevant microbial control and bioprocess design best practices into commercial manufacturing processes.
- Understands the business implications of assigned products and processes and identifies technical solutions compatible with business needs.
- Designs and executes experiments to test hypothesis related to project outcomes.
- Applies scientific knowledge to projects; determines priorities for experiments. Independently designs and executes experiments.
- Assures experimental quality through sound, independent, experimental design.
- Mentors less experienced team members and provides technical direction and feedback to others.
- Present results of projects, both, internally and externally. Participates in project planning, process update; contribute to experimental design.
- Develops productive collaborations and communications across functions.
- Responsible for timely project completion. Designs experiments and documentation independently.
- May act as lead scientist, project leader, or project contributor.
Ideal candidate profile:
This individual should be able to independently plan and execute scientifically sound experiments, evaluate results, test hypotheses, and translate technical findings into practical solutions aligned with business needs. They should also understand the operational and commercial implications of product and process decisions.
Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential. The person will work across functions, present project results to internal and external audiences, contribute to project planning, and provide technical direction and mentorship to less experienced colleagues. The ideal candidate is organized, accountable for timely project completion, comfortable serving as a lead scientist or project contributor, and committed to maintaining high standards of quality, customer service, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
- BS in Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field with 3-5 years relevant experience
- MS in Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field with 1-3 years relevant experience
Pay Range: $84500 – 162000 USD
