🏛️ Karolinska Institutet 📍 Sweden 🗓️ Posted 1 day, 8 hours ago

About this role

Postdoctoral studies in Neurodegenerative diseases (scholarship) Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?  In our research group, you will find a unique opportunity to work closely with leading experts at the crossroads of neuroimaging and neurosciences. We combine advanced neuroimaging methods (e.g., MRI, fMRI, diffusion imaging, PET) with computational and data-driven approaches to unravel how the human brain processes information and shapes our cognition and behavior. Our projects often involve large-scale brain data analysis, development of new analytic tools, and close collaboration with clinical partners to translate findings into practice. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you will have the opportunity to contribute to high-quality, cutting-edge research at the global forefront of neuroscience. Division The research conducted at the Division of Neuro focuses on a broad range of neurological conditions and disorders, such as neurovascular diseases, spinal cord and peripheral nerve injuries, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and neurotrauma. We also investigate neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), as well as migraine and other headache disorders.  We have a close collaboration with the neurology units at Karolinska University Hospital, ensuring that our research is rapidly translated into clinical practice. Our activities are highly multidisciplinary, involving medical research as well as expertise from other fields such as neurology, neurosurgery, computational sciences and radiology. Duties The candidate is expected to be highly motivated, independent and have good communication skills. You will collaborate with other group members, contribute to ongoing projects, supervise students, propose new ideas and be able to complete research projects and write manuscripts of high scientific quality. The focus is on understanding disease mechanisms, diagnostics and treatments through a combination of clinical and preclinical research, advanced imaging methods, registry-based studies and translational collaborations. The Postdoctoral studies will be performed for 1 year, with possible extension for 1 additional year and other later opportunities. Entry requirements We are looking for a candidate who has: - A PhD in in medicine and preferably MD background in neurology - Experience in statistical techniques, programming in R or other softwares - Experience with analysing structural MRI, DTI, and/or PET imaging analyses - Experience or interest in working with aging and/or neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases - Good academic record with scientific publications in world-class journals  - Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their merit in Sweden. A foreign researcher is a person living in another country who comes to Sweden with the intention of only staying in Sweden for all or part of their postdoctoral education at KI. Persons who are resident in Sweden and/or have carried out all or part of their academic education at KI or some other educational institution in Sweden cannot be considered for scholarships. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post-doctoral education. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher. What do we offer? A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Here, we conduct innovative medical research and provide the largest range of biomedical education in Sweden. At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top quality education and research. Students and employees have free access to our modern gym facilities with trained staff on site.
