Reports to: Principal Scientist

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia (Onsite)

Type: 1 year contract, possibility of extension

What you will do:

Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role you will join the Biologics Engineering with Advanced Mass Spectrometry (BEAM) team at our Research facility in Burnaby, BC, Canada.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to work with cross functional teams to characterize both reagent and therapeutic protein candidates using various analytical techniques to support Amgen's early phase discovery programs.

The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative team environment and contribute independently to diverse functions depending upon project needs and priority.

  • Maintain and oversee mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography instrumentation and laboratory processes
  • Perform intact and sub-unit protein mass analysis to confirm protein identity supporting a variety of large molecules
  • Perform peptide analysis to confirm sequence and protein modifications
  • Train protein biochemistry staff on sample preparation and sample submission and assist/troubleshoot with instrumentation, software and data interpretation
  • Participate in the design, development, implementation, method transfer and qualification of novel LC-MS and LC-MS/MS methods
  • Analyze and interpret data using automated workflows and maintain file organization

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology or a related discipline and 5 years of scientific laboratory experience.OR
    • Master's Degree in a closely related scientific discipline and 2+ years of laboratory experienceOR
    • PhD

      and

      • Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography experience

        Preferred Qualifications:

        • Training in analytical chemistry/biochemistry, including proficiency in operation of QTOF and Orbitrap mass spectrometers and UPLC instrumentation with 5+ years general laboratory experience. Prior experience supporting users is highly desired
        • 2+ years of hands-on experience in protein analytics. Experience with intact, sub-unit protein mass and peptide analysis is preferred
        • Familiarity with common LC-MS data acquisition and analysis software such as MassHunter, Byos, Proteome Discoverer, MASCOT, Xcalibur, etc. is desired
        • Experience with handling and analyzing large datasets is an asset
        • Ability to follow established laboratory protocols and adhere to data standards; attention to detail and careful execution of laboratory tasks are essential
        • Strong oral and written communication skills and organizational skills
        • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; experience with electronic notebooks
        • Must work well in a team, adaptable, fast paced environment
        • Resides in the Greater Vancouver Area
