Postdoctoral Fellow
About this role
Dr. Haofei Wang’s laboratory at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania, opening in January 2027, is recruiting one full-time postdoctoral researcher. Postdoctoral fellows will conduct research in cardiovascular development, functional genomics, single-cell and spatial technologies, and congenital heart disease.
The Wang Lab combines chromatin biology, single-cell and spatial genomics, stem-cell models, and in vivo functional genomics to study cardiovascular development and maturation. The early focus of the lab will be defining chromatin landscapes and cell communications that control postnatal cardiomyocyte maturation, and developing scalable approaches to functionally test regulatory genes directly in vivo.
As a newly established laboratory, we provide exceptional opportunities for postdoctoral researchers to take leadership and ownership of their projects, receive close mentorship, establish new experimental and computational platforms, and help shape the lab’s scientific directions.
The Wang Lab also welcomes inquiries from prospective PhD students and research technicians.
§ POSITION DESCRIPTION
Postdoctoral researchers will lead independent and collaborative projects, present their work at national and international conferences, prepare research manuscripts, participate in grant applications, collaborate across CHOP and Penn, and contribute to mentoring students and junior research staff.
§ QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in cardiovascular biology, developmental biology, genetics and genomics, molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field. The degree must be conferred before the start date.
- Research experience in cardiovascular biology, single-cell genomics, functional genomics, chromatin biology, organoid models, or mouse genetics is a plus.
- Demonstrated research productivity, including at least one representative first-author publication or preprint.
§ RESEARCH DIRECTIONS
The Wang Lab investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate heart development, maturation, disease, and regeneration. Our research integrates developmental biology, chromatin biology, single-cell genomics, spatial transcriptomics, stem-cell models, and in vivo functional genomics.
More detailed research directions can be found on the Research page.
§ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Anticipated start date: January-July 2027, with flexibility based on candidate availability.
Competitive salary and benefits will follow institutional policies and experience-based guidelines.
§ HOW TO APPLY
Please email the following materials to application email:
- Curriculum vitae
- A brief cover letter or research statement describing previous research experience, future interests, and potential fit with the laboratory
- Contact information for three professional references
