Research Fellow in Developmental Neurobiology

The project aims to determine the teratogenic (birth defects-causing) potential of a dietary supplement used for the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy. This decanoic acid-rich supplement is already being prescribed clinically, although its safety in pregnancy has not yet been established. The project is funded by a grant from Action Medical Research, and includes salary for a 1-year post-doctoral fellowship. The post-holder will use whole rat embryo culture, during the stages of neural tube closure, to evaluate possible adverse effects of varying doses of the supplement. The salary offered in this post is £46,261 per annum and is funded until 30/09/2027 in the first instance.

You will be a creative, highly organised and motivated individual with a strong interest in normal and abnormal nervous system development. You will have, or be in the final stages of, a PhD and have extensive experience of dissection and handling neurulation-stage mouse or rat embryos, plus skills in whole post-implantation embryo culture.
