We have an exciting opportunity to join the Institute as a Research Facility Scientist within the MRC WIMM Genome Engineering, Transgenics and Virus Production Facility.

The MRC WIMM Genome Engineering, Transgenics and Virus Production Facility is a specialist core Facility providing expertise in the design, generation and validation of genetically modified model systems. Working with research groups across the Institute, we combine molecular and cellular biology with state-of-the-art genome engineering and transgenic technologies to produce high-quality, validated reagents and models that enable cutting-edge biomedical research.

Our work encompasses CRISPR-based genome engineering, generation of genetically modified cell lines and mouse models, molecular validation, mouse embryonic stem cell technologies, cryopreservation and rederivation. We work closely with researchers from initial experimental design through to delivery of validated, ready-to-use models.

About the Role

As a Research Facility Scientist, you will join an experienced specialist team and contribute to all aspects of the design, generation and validation of genetically modified models.

You will work closely with researchers to understand their experimental requirements and help develop appropriate genome-engineering strategies. You will take responsibility for technically complex laboratory workflows, from molecular design and reagent generation through to genome editing, screening and molecular validation.

An important part of the role will be working collaboratively with Facility users. You will discuss project requirements with researchers, provide technical advice and communicate experimental progress and results clearly. You will manage multiple projects at different stages of delivery and work closely with other members of the facility to ensure an efficient and high-quality service.

About You

You will hold a degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genetics or a closely related discipline and have substantial relevant laboratory experience. You will have broad practical expertise in molecular and cellular biology, together with experience applying genome-engineering approaches to the generation and validation of genetically modified model systems.

You will be confident in planning and carrying out technically complex laboratory work and will have a systematic approach to experimental design, troubleshooting and interpretation of results. You will be able to work independently, exercise sound scientific judgement and manage multiple projects and competing priorities while maintaining consistently high standards of accuracy and reproducibility.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be comfortable working collaboratively with researchers from a wide range of scientific backgrounds. You will be able to explain technical information clearly, discuss experimental options and limitations, and provide constructive scientific advice.

You will be proactive, organised and collaborative, with a strong commitment to delivering a high-quality research service.

Contract Type

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) fixed-term position for 3 years.
