Postdoctoral Researcher in Structural Biology and Cytoskeletal Dynamics

The Structural Neurobiology Laboratory at BIOCEV / Charles University & Institute of Molecular Genetics in Prague is looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team.

About the lab

Our laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms that control cytoskeletal dynamics and cellular architecture. We combine cryo-EM, structural biology, protein biochemistry, biophysics and cell biology to understand how molecular signals are translated into changes in cellular structure and function.

We are a young and growing research group working in an international and collaborative environment at BIOCEV, a major biomedical research centre located just outside Prague. The successful candidate will join an ERC-CZ funded research programme and will have access to state-of-the-art infrastructure for structural and molecular biology.

The position

The project will focus on the molecular regulation of cytoskeletal proteins and protein complexes, using an integrated structural and mechanistic approach.

Depending on the candidate’s background and interests, the work may include:

• protein production and purification (insect and mammalian expression systems)

• biochemical and biophysical characterization of protein complexes

• cryo-EM

• protein–protein interaction studies

• structure–function analysis

• cell-based experiments to test molecular mechanisms in a cellular context

  The successful candidate will work closely with other members of the laboratory while being encouraged to develop increasing scientific independence and contribute their own ideas to the project.

  Candidate profile

  Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, cell biology or a related field.

  Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly valuable:

  • cryo-EM or other structural biology methods

  • recombinant protein production and purification

  • protein biochemistry

  • biophysical or quantitative interaction methods

  • mechanistic cell biology

    Previous experience in all of these techniques is not required. We particularly value:

    • strong scientific curiosity

    • enthusiasm for mechanistic research

    • the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

    • careful experimental work and critical thinking

    • good communication skills in English
