Summary
p53 is a transcription factor that acts as a central signaling node in cells. It is activated by DNA damage, senescence, amino acid starvation, among other stressors; and in turn controls diverse cellular responses including apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, metabolic changes, etc. It is not clear the extent with which the transcriptional response by such an important regulator has evolved across animals. We generated nascent transcription (PRO-seq), chromatin accessibility (ATAC-seq), and steady-state mRNA expression (RNA-seq) datasets from 10 primates, 1 ungulate, and 1 bird; to investigate the initial transcriptional response upon p53 activation with Nutlin-3a.
