Summary
Atherosclerosis is closely associated with oxidative stress, characterized by the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS can serve as a polarization queue depending on localization. We observed that predominantly foam cells elicit high mitochondrial ROS burden in human and mouse atherosclerotic lesions. Our results show changes in chromatin accessibility with DMNQ, a mitochondrial-specific ROS inducer, compared to H202 treatment for induction of general ROS.
