Growth hormone (GH) suppresses DNA damage repair in human prostate epithelial cells

Summary
In normal prostate, DNA damage accumulates with age, resulting in local GH induction. Age-associated local GH abundance enables further DNA damage accumulation. Employing RNA sequencing, we report here that genes related to DNA damage repair were found to be significantly suppressed in primary human prostate epithelial cells (HPrEC) line 1 and in line 2, in 3 independent experiments after treatment with 100 ng/mL GH for 24 h. BRCC3, TAF5, H4C16, NUDT16L1, and TADA3 , all pivotal in DNA damage repair were significantly downregulated. The data revealed mechanisms underlying GH-induced unrepaired DNA damage accumulation in prostate epithelial cells.
