Senior Research Fellow (Laboratory)

The Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS), officially launched on 1 December 2022, is a Research Centre of Excellence (RCE) supported by a total investment of around S$160 million over 10 years. IDMxS’ overarching approach is to go beyond the neat simplicity of intermolecular interactions in dilute media and embrace the inherent complexity of biological interactions and dense heterogeneity of their environments.  For more details, please view https://idmxs.org/.

Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Setup, Operations & Resource Management

•  Lead the setup, commissioning, and operational readiness of the new lab at IDMxS Level 7, including space planning, equipment installation, and workflow design.
•  Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure effective utilization of resources (equipment, chemicals, gases, and consumables) in alignment with research priorities.
•  Establish and maintain laboratory-level management systems (e.g., inventory tracking, equipment coordination, SOP frameworks), in alignment with IDMxS institutional policies and shared service structures.
•  Identify opportunities to enhance laboratory workflows and operational efficiency, and implement improvements in coordination with relevant institutional teams.

   

  Research Project & Operational Support

  • Provide operational and coordination support to Prof. Bazan’s research programs, including tracking project timelines, facilitating resource planning, and supporting milestone delivery.
  • Support grant-related activities at the laboratory level, including budget tracking, documentation preparation, and coordination with institutional offices.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research proposals and progress reports, supporting effective communication of research direction and outcomes.

     

    Procurement Coordination & Resource Planning

    • Strategize and oversee laboratory-specific procurement requirements, including equipment, chemicals, gases, and consumables, and work closely with IDMxS procurement and finance teams to ensure timely and compliant acquisition.
      • Support vendor engagement, technical evaluation, and planning of major equipment purchases in alignment with research requirements.
      • Facilitate efficient procurement workflows at the laboratory level while adhering to institutional processes.

         

        Laboratory Safety & Compliance

        • Support the implementation of laboratory safety practices in alignment with IDMxS safety policies and regulatory requirements.
        • Coordinate risk assessments, safety training, and onboarding processes for laboratory personnel in collaboration with institutional safety teams.
        • Mentor and oversee the operational conduct of research staff and students within the laboratory to maintain high standards of professional practice.
        • Promote a strong culture of safety and compliance within the synthesis laboratory environment.

           

          Laboratory Coordination, Engagement & Representation

          • Coordinate laboratory access, visits, and collaborations, ensuring operational readiness and effective communication of laboratory capabilities.
          • Serve as a key interface between Prof. Bazan’s laboratory and IDMxS administrative and technical units, facilitating smooth coordination and information flow.
          • Support engagement with external collaborators and partners through coordination of laboratory-related activities.

             

            Requirements:

            • PhD in a relevant discipline with 8 years postdoctoral or research experience in a laboratory setting.
            • Experience in lab setup, operations, resource planning, and implementation of SOPs and systems.
            • Ability to support research programmes, track timelines, and contribute to grant and reporting activities.
            • Experience in procurement planning, vendor coordination, and working with finance/procurement processes.
            • Understanding of lab safety practices, risk assessments, and regulatory requirements.
            • Coordination and communication skills with faculty, researchers, and support units.
            • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive operational improvements independently.
