Research Fellow (Coral Reef Ecosystems)

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang Technological University is seeking a Research Fellow (Post-doctoral) in Coral Reef Ecosystems for an initial 12-month appointment, with potential for extension subject to project needs and funding.

The Fellow will work under Assistant Professor Kyle Morgan to integrate existing and newly collected photoquadrat, multiscale photogrammetry and environmental datasets to identify regional spatial patterns and temporal trends in ecological processes and carbonate budgets across South and Southeast Asia.

The ideal candidate will have strong research interests in fundamental field-based coral reef science, carbonate budgets, and analysis of large, complex ecological datasets. Experience in coral bleaching research, reef resilience, and/or climate-driven ecological change would be highly desirable.

The Research Fellow will develop ambitious, frontier research questions and lead high-quality peer-reviewed publications. They will contribute to regional field campaigns, collaborative research, and capacity building, while independently developing and delivering a coherent research programme within the group.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead research, analysis and publications on coral reef ecology, coral bleaching and carbonate budgets.
• Analyse large regional photoquadrat, photogrammetry, benthic and environmental datasets to identify spatial patterns and temporal trends.
• Develop frontier research questions and robust quantitative approaches.
• Plan and conduct regional scientific-diving field campaigns and build productive relationships with a diverse range of collaborators.
• Provide expert coral and benthic community identification and contribute to data quality control.
• Lead manuscripts, reports, presentations and other research outputs; support junior researchers and group activities.
  

  Job Requirements:

  • PhD in marine science, marine ecology or related discipline.
  • Strong publication record for career stage in coral reef ecology or related fields.
  • Expert coral and benthic community identification skills, with coral reef field and scientific-diving experience.
  • Advanced Open Water or Rescue Diver certification.
  • Strong statistical and data-analysis skills, including R/Python and large ecological or environmental datasets.
  • Experience with photoquadrat, photogrammetry and/or Agisoft Metashape is highly desirable.
  • Excellent scientific writing, communication, collaboration and independent research skills; familiarity with Southeast Asian reef systems is advantageous.
