The Division of Cell and Gene Therapy of the Center for Translational Neuromedicine (CTN) is looking for an experienced and highly motivated PhD student. The successful candidate must be interested academically in neural and neuroendocrine biology, particularly in its translational applications.

The PhD student will join the Division of Cell and Gene Therapy (Goldman lab). The lab offers an opportunity to work in a highly innovative environment with a strong scientific focus on neural and glial cell biology and an equally strong practical focus on clinical translation.

Project description

This project focuses on the development of stem cell-derived immunoavoidant neural and neuroendocrine progenitor cells, including both pancreatic beta cells and CNS glia.

Job description

Your key tasks as a PhD student at SUND are:

• Carrying through an independent research project under supervision.
• Completing PhD courses or other equivalent education corresponding to approximately 30 ECTS points.
• Participating in active research environments including a stay at another research team.
• Obtaining experience with teaching or other dissemination related to your PhD project
• Teaching and disseminating your knowledge.
• Writing a PhD thesis on the grounds of your project

  Qualifications

  A master's degree in neurobiology or neuroendocrinology, with course work in neuroimmune mechanisms and significant post-graduate technical experience, is required for this position. Significant bench experience in human neural and/or beta cell biology, pluripotent stem cell maintenance and characterization, iPSC neural and endocrine differentiation protocols, small animal surgery, histology and confocal imaging is required for this position. Expertise in functional assays of pancreatic Islet cell function, as well as in single cell RNA-Seq and epigenetic profiling is highly desirable.

    The place of employment is at Center for Translational Neuromedicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.

    The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week. The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of three years. The start date is 1 January 2027 or after agreement.

    Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary starts at approximately 27,800 DKK/Roughly 3,700 EUR (October 2021 level) plus pension.
