Summary
Puberulic acid has been suggested as the causative agent in the toxic lot of Choleste-Help, but no detailed toxicological data have been published to date. In this study, we demonstrated a striking similarity in the renal transcriptomic profiles induced by puberulic acid and the toxic lot of Choleste-Help, supporting the conclusion that puberulic acid is the likely causative compound. Furthermore, both treatments led to a significant downregulation of mitochondria-related transcripts, suggesting that the kidney injury involves mitochondrial dysfunction.
