Laboratory Manager
About this role
The Flanigan Lab at the Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Laboratory Manager to oversee daily operations and contribute to ongoing research focusing on dysfunctional social behaviors in mouse models of addiction, depression, and Autism. The lab employs a variety of circuit neuroscience techniques including fiber photometry, opto/chemogenetics, electrophysiology, anatomical tracing, in-situ hybridization, and transcriptomic analyses. Experience in these techniques is not required, but enthusiasm for research and learning new skills should be present. This supervisory role will include supply ordering, mouse colony management, equipment maintenance, training of new lab members, and overseeing research projects, among other scientific and administrative tasks. The individual will also be responsible for safety aspects of the lab and ensuring animal and lab safety protocols are written and up to date. Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to lead and direct others. Experience in small rodent intracranial surgery and behavioral paradigms required.
We are seeking a highly motivated, conscientious, and organized individual to serve a technician in the lab. Ideally, this would be a long-term position. However, we will also consider individuals who can serve in the position for two or more years (ideal for individuals seeking additional laboratory experience before applying to graduate or medical school). This will be a full-time position (40 hours/week). Salary will be determined based on education attained and previous experience. While a Masters Degree (MS) is preferred, applicants with Bachelors Degrees will also be considered. The position also includes a competitive benefits package. We would like the chosen candidate to join the lab at or around early January 2027.
Our laboratory is located in Charleston, SC. Charleston is a vibrant, and diverse city on the coast of SC. It has a fantastic food, music, and entertainment scene with beautiful natural surroundings. The weather is temperate, the beach is close by, and the city and surrounding areas offer exciting outdoor activities year-round (surfing, kayaking, boating, hiking, etc.).
