Research Fellow in Human Genetics (Rare Cardiovascular Disease)

Institute of Health Informatics is looking to appoint a Research Fellow in Human Genetics (Rare Cardiovascular Disease) to join our welcoming and vibrant Institute.

This position presents a unique opportunity to join a team of experienced health data scientists, informaticians, statisticians and clinical epidemiologists and contribute significantly to the statistical analysis and subsequent presentation of results from large scale national and rich local health record data resources. The Research Fellow in Human Genetics will work across partners to integrate clinical and genetic data within relevant secure data environments for research; carry out data management tasks to prepare data for analyses, including data extraction and data quality assurance; and generate efficient and shareable code which can be used in different datasets; amongst other duties.

The post is full-time (36.5 hours per week) and the post is funded until 30 September 2029. Further funding may become available.

Appointment at Grade 7 (£46,261 – £54,019 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance) is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (£39,807 – £42,891 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.

The Research Fellow in Human Genetics must have (PhD in Statistics, Epidemiology, Genetics, Computer Science or a related numerate discipline, or relevant working experience as well excellent programming and data visualisation skills in Python and R; and ability to write code that clearly expresses its purpose, and is readily used by others maintained and extended. The role holder will have experience with large-scale data processing, including data collection, cleaning, and preprocessing (e.g. SQL, PySpark), and analysis.
