Summary
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) disproportionately affects women, but the biological basis for this sex difference remains unclear. Using transcriptomic profiling of postmortem human AD brain tissue, we identified a sex-specific enrichment of interferon-alpha (IFN-α) signaling pathways in females. This immune signature was recapitulated in APP/PS1 transgenic mouse models, where female mice exhibited greater amyloid pathology, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration compared to males.
