Summary
Osteocyte loss is a hallmark of bone aging and fragility, yet the mechanisms regulating osteocyte formation and survival are poorly understood. This study measured the effect of FGF receptor (FGFR) inhibition on osteocytes and on bone integrity. FGFR inhibition in Ocy454 cells regulated cell morphology and regulated gene programs involved in osteoblast-osteocyte development, axon guidance, and bone ECM organization. These findings establish FGFR signaling as a critical regulator of osteocyte differentiation and bone homeostasis.
