Summary
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is among the most commonly occurring head and neck malignancies characterized by high metastatic and invasive potential. Recent studies have suggested that dysregulation of circular RNAs (circRNAs) may contribute to tumorigenesis and serve as potential therapeutic targets for NPC. Therefore, further in-depth research is necessary to identify specific circRNAs that could potentially serve as biomarkers for NPC. Here, we identified that two circRNAs, circRBM6 and circMLLT1, were more highly expressed in NPC patients with distant metastasis than in patients without distant metastasis. To shed light on the mechanism underlying circRBM6 and circMLLT1i promote nasopharyngeal carcinoma metastasis, we performed high-throughput RNA-Seq analyses to reveal the differentially expressed genes in NPC cells transfected with control or circRBM6/circMLLT1-expressing vectors. We observed a significant upregulation in the expression of tumour metastasis-related genes in NPC cells with circRBM6 or circMLLT1 overexpression.
