Summary
Our research introduces a novel animal model for transient ischemic attack (TIA), mimicking brief episodes without cell loss but resulting in long-term behavioral and neuronal deficits. We identified excessive microglial reactivity, driven by hyperacute ATP release, as a pivotal contributor to post-TIA neurological deficits, which was alleviated by inhibiting the P2Y12 receptor. This finding suggests that targeting microglial reactivity offers a promising strategy to prevent cognitive decline in TIA patients, opening avenues for further research in this under-explored area.
