Summary
Disorders of redox homeostasis and the excessive release of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) are pivotal events in the pathogenesis of epilepsy, contributing to neuronal hyperexcitability, mitochondrial dysfunction, and subsequent cell death. Cordyceps sinensis (C. sinensis), a traditional Chinese medicine renowned for its tonic properties, has been traditionally used to alleviate a variety of ailments. Emerging evidence suggests that C. sinensis and its active constituents possess significant sedative and anti-inflammatory effects. Transcriptomic sequencing was conducted on the H2O2-induced cell lines treated with varying concentrations of the C. sinensis mixture and monomers to validate and integrate the findings. This research investigates the neuroprotective and anticonvulsant effects of C. sinensis extract against H2O2-induced oxidative stress and excitotoxicity in neuronal models of epilepsy.
